Management of adrenal metastases from HCC

چکیده
Kaohsiung J Med Sci August 2005 • Vol 21 • No 8 371 Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary malignancy of the liver, with extrahepatic metastasis typically found during disease progression [1,2]. Edmondson and Steiner reported from autopsy findings that the adrenal gland is the second most common site for metastasis, secondary to the lung [3]. Clinically, however, HCC metastasis to the adrenal gland is rare. When adrenal metastasis is observed, it requires aggressive management, due to the risk of rupture and internal hemorrhage. Experience in the management of adrenal metastasis from HCC is limited [4,5], and current practice calls for adrenalectomy as the main treatment option, followed by MANAGEMENT OF BILATERAL ADRENAL METASTASES

Metachronous pulmonary and adrenal metastases after liver transplantation for hepatocarcinoma
BACKGROUND The worldwide experience of surgical resection for isolated metastasis following liver transplantation (LT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is limited. METHODS The case of a 60-year-old patient performed successful surgical management for metachronous pulmonary and adrenal metastases from HCC after LT. RESULTS Eighty months after LT, he was presently alive and disease-free wit...
متن کاملRadiologically occult hepatocellular carcinoma in a cirrhotic liver presenting with bilateral adrenal metastases.
Although it is common to have extra-hepatic metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) at the time of presentation, it is extremely rare to have extra-hepatic metastatic HCC without a detectable primary in the liver. We report a unique case in which a patient presented with bilateral large adrenal masses which were subsequently proven to be metastases from HCC. However, there was no tumour se...
متن کاملRadiotherapy for Adrenal Metastasis from Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Multi-Institutional Retrospective Study (KROG 13-05)
Although the adrenal glands are not common sites of metastasis from hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), this metastasis can be met in patients with advanced HCC in some clinical settings. However, the effectiveness of radiotherapy against such metastases is unclear. Therefore, we performed the present multi-institutional study to investigate tumor response, overall survival (OS), treatment-related ...
متن کاملSpontaneous complete regression of multiple metastases of hepatocellular carcinoma: A case report
Spontaneous regression of cancer is a partial or complete disappearance of malignant tumor without specific treatment. Spontaneous regression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a rare condition, and the mechanism underlying it is unclear. This report presents a rare case of spontaneous complete regression of HCC, as revealed by tumor markers and imaging studies. A 64-year-old Korean male pati...
متن کاملAdrenal metastasis as first presentation of hepatocellular carcinoma
BACKGROUND Metastases from hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) can be found in the lung and adrenal gland. We report case of a patient who presented with adrenal metastasis as the first clinical manifestation of HCC. CASE PRESENTATION A patient was referred for surgical treatment for a tumor in retro-peritoneal space. The computerized tomography (CT) scan revealed a mass originating from the left ...
